For the two weeks (at least!) prior to our inaugural Golf Classic, we watched the weather look to turn our tournament into a wet mess. While this is not that unusual for us, what happened yesterday at The Country Club of Woodbridge was nothing short of a miracle…or Ryan.

Amazingly, all 88 of our golfers came to play, despite the dire weather reports and the downpours many of them were experiencing in their hometowns. And while it rained enough 1/2 way through the tournament to need an umbrella for about 10 minutes, for 95% of the day we were under clouds and sun and we were able to play all 18 holes.

Of course, what happened after that was another story! Torrential rains and thunder came within minutes of everyone making it under the tent. We were all safe, though the sound of that rain was a little menacing, and it did require a lot of fast, last-minute maneuvering on the part of the country club…including setting up lighting, cuz it was pretty dark in that tent!

The best part of the day, as always, were the people who came out to support us and the charities, and to honor Ryan. Whether playing with friends or family, young and not young alike, having an intergenerational aspect to our tournament fulfilled our dream. And having children, as young as 8 playing with their dads, was nothing short of heartwarming.

We hope that more families and kids will join us next year!

We will be forever grateful to them and all who came out yesterday to be a part of our efforts to honor Ryan’s life and legacy.
